The Happy Readers Book Club

Recently we had partnered with the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative to support their Happy Readers Book Club. Alex Song of the DWCC recently submitted a report to us. It read, in part:

The program director volunteer, Paige McMahon has been welcoming readers then
gathering general information around their interests and hobbies and then selecting a book
together with them online. The following week the book is delivered and then read at book
club. The group gathers once a week at the DWCC office located at 502 Wyandotte St. W.

We have purchased 36 book and average 5-6 readers weekly. Our largest group was when we
celebrated a birthday party and had 15-20 people in attendance. We have used $$913.72 in the
purchase of books, some other craft supplies and light refreshments.

From our program director, “This program really helped not only kids but adults getting engaged
and excited over reading and improving their literacy skills. I honestly believe that this program
is capable of engaging people and genuinely getting excited over literature and books.”
We have noticed that during the time of our programming on Wednesdays at 4:30pm-
6pm many of our local residents walking by our facility have seen our group through the
window and have walked in to ask what our programming is and have joined. The book
club has been a great program for our community.
We appreciate the support and funding that the Windsor Volunteers fo Literacy

Foundation has provided and hope that we will be able to continue with this program
through further support.
